An Almost daily source of pictures, stories or parody to keep the Warnickian spirit strong in these tough times. Also, an excuse for us to waste time looking at random things on the web.
THIS is pure, funky, avant garde strangeness. Having a routine day? Play this loud and watch. Want to freak out your kids? Keep calling them back into the room to watch it again and again.
Oh my is this video a roller coaster of strangess and weird. Enjoy!
Thanks to my sister on this one. What do you get when you mix an anti-Fast food message, a parody of McDonalds corporate mascots, and a skilled Black Sabbath cover band?
I give you... Mac Sabbath. Are they good? Watch and be delighted, O you lovers of Ozzy with Vegan leanings.
Super high praise for the guitarist playing under that massive costume. BUT WAIT! Here's the hard rock icing on the social commentary cake: watch what happens when they wind up giving a performance for Ozzy himself!
"Funny as f***, that!" laughs the 'Prince of Darkness.'
Sure, this was originally an 1980's synth anthem. But this cover is too splendid to ignore. 1:22 of brillaince with the bow. If it brings you back to being 11 years old on a tuesday night in front of the tube, you are not alone.
Sometimes a supportive message such as "be yourself and don't worry about how other people judge your dancing" is so cloying and cliche it fails. Not this video by Aya Coren for "Lo Osim Et Zeh Kahcah/ It's not done that way." A catchy pop tune with a wonderful video even includes a bit of hip hope question and answer time. To be played loud.
Oh my, is this weird fun. Warnickian? Sure, I'll give it that tag. Omer Adam has a catchy tune and combines it with a strange eye-ball centered video that has--- you know what, just watch it for yourself.
Here are the lyrics in rough translation. Enjoy!
-----------------------------------
Don’t eat before washing
your hands
Don’t enter the Dead Sea
after shaving your legs
Don’t peel a clementine in
a room that has people in it
There are things we just don’t
do, There are things we just don’t--
Don't take a shower
without using water/mayim
Don’t forget Yerushalayim!
Don't pass up an
optometrist before buying glasses
There are things we just don’t
do, There are things we just don’t-
I wanted something fitting
Perfect for my face
something beautiful
that emphasizes the eyes
So I bought glasses to see
(things) more rosy
I saw with my eyes what
makes us dance
Let's look at life in the
distance
Because in this life there
are things that we Don’t
A great performance of one of the greatest songs of the 80's. You may ask yourself, am I right, am I wrong? You'd be asking about the song "Once in a Lifetime," by the Talking Heads. This is a version from one of the most amazing films ever made, and certainly one of the greatest of concert films, "Stop Making Sense," which should be watched on a big screen with great sound behind it. Between the brilliance of the Heads and Jonathan Demme capturing so much of the power of that concert, it really is a superb film, front to back. Heck, even Pauline Kael and Robert Christgau liked it, and they made their reputations on despising almost anything normal people liked! For now, sing along like nobody is listening. You can even do that hand chopping thing as David Byrne does it.
Nine years without an update. What could be powerful enough to get a post now?
How about some fine Rock and Roll, imported from the Middle East? Guy Mazig has the chops to make things rock even if your Hebrew is not at Israeli-level fluency. "Kamah Ani Ohev Otah" is his new single- "Just how much I love you" is the translation of the title and chorus, and the video is sure to sit well with lovers of bold color and anime. Turn the speakers up and boogie!
